Fair Trade Federation wholesaler Unique Batik offers specialty clothing, jewelry, accessories and other novelties made by artisans in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Founder and president Sharon Gale has tapped The Bloodhound Group to expand and enhance the brand’s online presence.
“I selected The Bloodhound Group for its more comprehensive and integrated approach to marketing,” says Gale, who evaluated multiple firms. The BHG team will conduct customer research, refine website brand messaging and manage social media and email marketing.
Since 1991, Unique Batik has worked with artisans (individuals, families and co-ops) in Guatemala, Ghana, Thailand and Chile to create its extensive product line of hand-crafted jewelry, men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, backpacks, handbags, accessories and more. As a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation, Unique Batik guarantees its artisans fair wages, long-term relationships and safe working conditions that are free from discrimination and forced child labor. This allows the artisans to make a living while staying in their home communities and carrying on their cultural traditions.
“The more we learned about Unique Batik, the more we wanted to be part of their business story,” says Jim Cobb, chief brand strategist for The Bloodhound Group. “It’s such a cool company, with a great business model. We are honored to be chosen to help manage their marketing.”
As a native of Guatemala, BHG data scientist Alejandro Porras was particularly excited about working with Unique Batik. “I recognize so much of their merchandise as being crafted in our country. Being able to share Guatemala’s culture with a wider audience really warms my heart.”
BHG believes having team members from Guatemala working on the Unique Batik business creates an added level of understanding and support both for our client’s business and the fair trade cause she is passionate about.
